What is today's date?

In UTC it is Monday, 27 July 2026. The panel above reads your own timezone, so the date, the ISO week number and the day of the year are yours rather than a server's. And it says the part most pages leave out: the date is not the same everywhere. At any moment two calendar dates are in use on Earth, and around midnight UTC there are three.

Today is not one date

The obvious answer to "what is today" is a date, and it is wrong often enough to matter. The inhabited world spans 26 hours of UTC offsets, not 24 — Kiribati sits at UTC+14 and Baker Island at UTC−12 — so there is never a moment when everyone shares a calendar date. Most of the time two are in use. For roughly two hours either side of midnight in London, three are.

That is not trivia if you schedule anything. A deadline of "end of day Friday" is a different instant depending on whose Friday you meant, and a contract that says "within 30 days" starts counting from a date that two parties may not agree on. The list above is the live version of that problem: every distinct date currently in use, with a place that is on it.

The two numeric rows above are the other reason to be careful. 07/08 is the seventh of August almost everywhere and the eighth of July in the United States, and nothing in the string itself tells you which was meant. Both are shown so you can copy the one your reader will actually parse — or better, copy the ISO form, which is unambiguous by design and sorts correctly as text.

The week number is the other thing this page exists to get right. There are at least three definitions in common use, and they disagree at the turn of the year. The one shown here is ISO 8601 — weeks begin on Monday, and week 1 is the week containing the first Thursday of January. It is what European business, most project software and the Nordic countries mean by "week 34", and it is why the 1st of January is sometimes in week 52 of the previous year rather than week 1 of this one.

Worth knowing: The ISO week is one of several definitions in use. If your payroll or school calendar disagrees at the turn of the year, it is using a different one, not a wrong one.
